Close to the Action - Volunteering at Birmingham 2022!
Our Cycling Events Activation Lead, Jennifer Powell, was lucky enough to volunteer poolside at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and she has shared her experience with us.
I volunteered as a Swimming & Para-Swimming Field of Play team member at the brand new Sandwell Aquatics Centre.
The whole experience was fantastic. Being on the Field of Play team meant that I was either poolside or in the athletes ‘Call Room’ ensuring that the swimmers were checked in and ready for their event.
I loved being so close to the action!
The new aquatic centre is an incredible facility to have on our doorstep and I’m excited to see the impact it has on the region. It will be great to have Sandwell Aquatics athletes winning medals on the world stage in future.
It was hard work but I met some fantastic people and we had great fun. I would thoroughly recommend volunteering to anyone.
