Oldbury Academy & Sams Health and Fitness Suite
Physical Activity Provider
Oldbury Academy and Sam's Health and Fitness Suite have been working together for the past 14 years. We are based within the schools premises at Oldbury, Pound Road. Pupils from Oldbury Academy use the facilities as part of their P.E lessons. This not only enables students to develop their health, fitness and well-being, but we also take the opportunity to talk through the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, encouraging them to develop their own fitness programmes.
This unique setting (away from the class-room, traditional sports-field/sports-hall) offers the pupils a platform to really work together, push one another, and provide a change from their traditional time-table (whilst still being within the schooll!) We are really passionate about mental well-being, and we truly believe the interaction between group and individual exercise within the gym setting, allows our pupils to build on their positive mental well-being.
The positive experience that the pupils gain from the gym in P.E lessons means we have many pupils using the gym out of school hours. It is also great to see that the good news spreads and we welcome pupils from surrounding schools. This often encourages the parents to get involved and we offer discounted parent and pupil passes to encourage this.
Our other unique offering, is Oldbury Academy Olympic Weightlifting Club, which is based within the gym. The club provides coaching sessions to individuals of all ages/levels to give the sport a try. Proudly, the club has developed many athletes who have competed from regional level through to the highest international stages (Commonwealth Games).

Testimonials
I used the Gym as my freinds from Bristnall Academy were using the gym after school. I then decided to join Oldbury Academy's Weightlifting Club when I was 15, and I train there 5 times a weeks with my coach. I never even knew what the sport was, but the fun and interactive sessions has now led to a true dream of competing at the Olympic Games- Ayo Fadhunsi
After being unhappy about my weight for long time, I joined the gym to shed some weight. I must be honest, being from an Asian backgorund the gym was a daunting prospect, which meant I kept putting it off. How silly I was! The staff and environment there is just fantastic. Sam and his team have a natural ability to just put you at ease and give you the confidence to exercise in a safe and comfortable enviroment. A godsend!
