Active Black Country Board Member Vacancies

Active Black Country (ABC) is the Government and Sport England recognised Country Sports Partnership (CSP) for the Black Country region, providing the strategic leadership for sport and physical activity across the areas of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Our vision is we aim to make it easier for individuals and communities to be physically active. To be safe, secure, healthy and passionate about sport.

The Active Black Country Board functions as the decision making body of Active Black Country and has overall responsibility for the strategic co-ordination and planning of ABC’s activities, as well as holding it to account for the effective delivery of its operational plan.

Operating as Non-Executive Directors without voting rights, its members comprise Independent Board members, nominated representative members from the four Black Country local authorities and advisors representing national and local stakeholders.

Active Black Country seeks expressions of interest for Independent non-executive Board Members. We are looking for individuals who will bring expertise from sport, education, health and local government, as well as general corporate skills, but who also importantly bring drive, commitment, the ability to ask intelligent questions and be collaborative.

Some of you may have access to key networks or contacts in other sectors relevant to our work and can enhance our strategic and political influence; others may bring a strong local overview of sports and physical activities.

Prior experience of a board role is not necessary – we are keen to welcome new members who bring fresh thinking from within the communities we represent. To complement our existing skills, we are particularly interested in applicants with experience in the following areas: Grassroots and Community Sports, Strategic Marketing, Commercial Management and Education.

The post is not remunerated but out of pocket expenses can be paid.

The Active Black Country Board encourages diversity to maximise achievements, good practice, innovation and impact and we welcome applications from everyone.

We therefore reflect a positive action approach, under the Equality Act 2010 with appointments made on merit alone.
