Cycling Project in Walsall

We recently caught up with Angela our Community Connector for Walsall to talk about the recent support provided to a cycling project in Walsall.

The Agenda 21 group, based in Reedswood Park, Birchills provide free ‘Learn to Ride’ training sessions for local youngsters, hosts bikes maintenance classes and has scores of people of all ages attend its regular guided rides for all around the park and beyond. They have recently taken delivery of new bikes to replace ones stolen by thieves.

Angela said:

Understanding the local people of Birchills and the intergenerational makeup of the community, has been vital in supporting Birchills Agenda effectively. During the past two years l have developed a strong working relationship with Project Leader Shokt. Support has included the ongoing sourcing of volunteers, as upskilling volunteers is vital to sustain the cycle sessions at Reedswood Cycling Club. I have explored various funding and connected organisations to the centre. I ensured the cycle group had the opportunity to demonstrate cycling at the local commonwealth tri it event which was organised by Active Black Country and Walsall Council. This was to enable the community group to reach a wider audience and gain new members. In addition to cycling, I have hosted coffee morning for residents to discuss physical activity needs for their wellbeing and successfully secured a fully funded community table tennis package from Tennis England.
